Hello Dr. Braverman,

I am not sure if I qualify as a recurrent pregnancy loss candidate because I am in the middle of only my second miscarriage. My first miscarriage was this past May at 7 weeks and now I am miscarrying (I woke up to bright red blood) after a successful IUI on October 24. By the end of the day the red blood turned to brown clots but no more cramping. I guess this can be seen as a chemical pregnancy since my conception date was about 18 days ago. I have been diagnosed with PCOS and am taking metformin to regulate. I have had a fertility workup and polyps and endometriosis which were removed early October.

I am the Assistant Principal of Public High School. Yesterday I was involved in breaking up a fight. I was not hurt physically at all but it was a stressful situation to say the least. Is it possible that the stress from that incident caused the miscarriage?

What do you think my next steps should be?

Thank you so much. I see you you respond to people frequently. I am very impressed by that and I look forward to hearig from you.

There are many reasons to start the work up for recurrent pregnancy loss. Certainly if you have a diagnosis that puts you at high risk for a miscarriage such as PCOS and you have a miscarriage you are certainly warranted in immediately seeking help. As you may have read on our website, there are so many complex interatctions between the immune system , endocrine system, and thrombophilic system(blood clotting) in patients with PCO if not all addressed carefully can lead to early pregnancy loss. I can assure you however that breaking up the fight(a good thing to do) in now way was the cause of your loss.
I would be happy to help guide you in this complex workup as well as guide your treatment, If you are not local feel free to call and schedule a telephone consultation wtih me. I look forward to speaking with you.
