There have been quite a few questions regarding weekly allergy shots and subsequent difficulty getting pregnant with immune related causes. I thought I would summarize the issues here. Allergies are mediated throught the release of IGE antibodies and these in turn are mediated through the production of TH2 cytokines(such as IL10 and IL4,both of which are disucussed in our website). Most of the allergy therapies are designed to lower TH2 response and drive the body towards a TH1 response Great for allergies bad for embryos trying to implant. As we discussed on the website an embryo needs to shift the bodies immune system at some point after implantation from a TH1 state to a TH2 state in order to create immune tolerance for itself. After years of allergy shots the system is so programmed to stay in the TH1 state and out of the TH2 state the embryo has a hard time creating immune tolerance for itself and hence these patients many times present themselves to our clinic with recurrent miscarriage or failure to conceive. Forturnately we can assist in the transition and these patients can be treated and the TH1 state can be forced to TH2. This is not an uncommon problem but there is not a lot of awareness about this cause of RPL.

Hi Dr Braverman,
I discovered that I am no longer allergic to horses really since I started immune treatments and I noticed this after getting LIT the first time. Now I ride a horse 3 times a week with no problems. Could this be a bad thing? I haven't had success with or without the allergy, just thought this could be a clue.
Thanks for this information,
Carly

Hard to answer with out knowing your full immune panel and history. You would think it would be the opposite as LIT should push you into a TH2 state that supports the progression of allergies, are there any other treatments you recieved? Prednisone or another antiinflammatory. May be no relation to the LIT.

Hi, when I discovered my allergy was significantly better I had only had 2 LIT and Fish Oil. Then I did Humira, Ivig, Dex and thought those were helping, but it's been six months and I've gone off the Dex for a month break found no allergy. Thank you for replying so quick!

My pleasure there are other components that trigger allergy and maybe these have been removed as well. Its never as simple as just Th1 and TH2.
