Hi Dr. Braverman,
I am a member of LIFamilies.com, where you have a very fine reputation. I have seen your name countless times during my nearly 2-year IF journey, and I am finally reaching out to contact you.

My story: I have 1 child who is 3 1/2 years old, who I conceived with no problem (4th cycle). When I got my period following her birth, I began having brown bleeding (spotting) during my luteal phase, which increased over time. The month I started TTC for --2 (April 2009), I had 14 days of brown bleeding! My OB put me on Provera, which helped decrease the brown bleeding that cycle (5 days), but it resumed the next cycle. When my progesterone was tested, it came back normal. I eventually saw an RE, where I did 4 rounds of IUI (3 w/ Clomid), all of which failed. I was told it was time for IVF, but for a variety of reasons, I chose to take another route and go see a NaproTechnology doctor - mainly because I really would like an explanation for my secondary infertility. Long story short, I was treated for high prolactin, I take low-dose Naltrexone daily, my husband and I did a 3-week course of antibiotics (which helped the brown bleeding for about 3 mos, but it is now back), and I had laparoscopic surgery for endometriosis (which was found at a "moderate" level and removed). Since all that, I have still been unsuccessful in getting pregnant. I saw Dr. Toth a few weeks ago and am awaiting those results.

Perhaps of interest to you, I have psoriatic arthritis and have a strong family history of autoimmune diseases.

My question for you is this: Do you think there is anything you can do for me that hasn't already been done? My goal is to conceive naturally, but if IVF is my ONLY hope, I'd consider it if I had a good explanation as to why it was my only chance.

Thank you for taking the time to read this, and I appreciate any feedback you can give me.

I am sorry for all your difficulties. Yes I do beleive there could be immune issues involved here. (given your current medical condition and your strong family history) . However remember that most immune issues present as recurrent pregnancy loss not usually as secondary infertility. I beleive the most significant issue here is the endometriosis which does have an immune component and can affect both egg quality and implantation. Both of these issues can be treated .
You should call me and I would be happy to give you my opinion on the remainder of your workup that is still pending(I think it would be worthwhile for you), as well as suggestions on how you can finally concieve. Please call before you spend any extra money on treatments that may soon be recommended to you. I hope I can be of service to you.

Thank you for your reply, Dr. Braverman. I received my results from Dr. Toth and infection was found in both me and my husband. Dr. Toth recommends 10 days of intravenous antibiotic therapy with uterine washes for me and prostate injections for my husband (plus follow-up antibiotics orally). Do you believe there are other effective alternatives to this?
