Dr. Braverman,
A couple questions:
1/ Do you usually recommend to someone with Hashimoto's (690 TPO) to take a baby aspirin daily or does that seem to make things worse with the immune system?
2/ I usually take Omega 3 supplements with my multivitamin- what is the proper dosage of pharmaceutical omega 3's to receive benefits of decreasing inflammation? I have heard 2000 before, but not sure if that is correct. Thank you so much!

Yes I have my hashimotos patients take baby asa. I usually prescribe anywhwer from 1000 to 4000 of omega 3 depending on the extent of the inflammatory process we are treating.
Be aware that I ususally have my patients with Hashimotos and RPL on other meds as well rarely just baby asa. Again this depends on the clinical history.

Thanks so much for the reply Dr. Braverman! Really is a honorable thing that you do for patients.
Couple other questions:
1/ Does having high TPO's cause infertility?
2/ For someone with high TPO's,,, will going gluten free and taking excessive iodine out of diet (I take a mv now with 1000mcg Pot iodide) help lower the antibodies...? Or do you ever use low dose Naltrexone to treat this?

3/ I live in the midwest can someone like me be a patient of yours remotely????

Thanks so much again!

yes thryoid antibodies can cause infertilty and can also be a sign that the necessary mechanisms that the embryo uses to create immune tolerance are defectivel. Gluten is always a good thing to eliminate in any autoimmune syndorme as it is such a potentiator of the immune system. I would leave it to your thryoid specialist to manage your iodine.

Thanks dr B.
1/ I would leave it up to my thyroid specialist, but he isnt worried at all about my TPO's being at 691, even if we are trying to get pregnant! He only becomes concerned with them when they get up in the thousands (so his nurse says- i called her specifically to ask him what i could do to lower the antibodies and thats what she told me)
I have read so much that getting excessive iodine could be to blame if vit D and other vit levels look ok (which they do)... unless gluten could be the culprit? I just went gluten free 1.5 mos ago.....
2/ Also would you be able to answer about me being a remote patient? Is it possible to go over test results via skype and do some timed intercourse or IUI cycles.... we just cannot afford IVF at this time... Would be a lot for us just to have the testing done. Thanks so much!

I can only treat you remotely if you have an OB/GYN that will consult with me and order your tests. I can not consult with you directly if you live out of the state as that is against the regulations of most state medical boards and we must comply.
