Dear Dr Braverman,

I have recently had some DQ alpha testing done in Australia.
The results are:

ME
DQB1*03:02, 05:01
DQA1*01:01/04/05, 03:01/02/03

Husband:
DQB1*03:01
DQA1*03:02/03, 05:05/09

My IVF Doctor has written to me and told me we therefore have 2 shared DQ alpha genes: 03:01 and 03:02.

I am confused and despite alot of internet research and speaking to my DR cannot seem to find an explanation. I understand we have 2 DQ alpha genes.

As my husbands 03:01 appears as a DQ beta not a DQ alpha is this really a "matching gene" to my DQ alpha 03:01?

Also, how do the variants work - as I have 03:01/02/03 - does this mean it could appear as 03:01 or 03:02 or 03:03? In which case, there would seem to be many more than just four possible combinations of gene pairs for each embryo?

Would appreciate any information you can give me to help me make sense of this.

Many thanks
TKK

Please read my blog on our website about HLA then let me know if it makes more sense. There is no value at all in looking at just DQalpha , there is so much more that needs to be studied buy you need your complete HLA screening done. If you would like my assistance , fill out a consult form from the website and we will schedule a free 10 mintue chat by SKYPE or telephone.
