HCG boosters in the 2ww?

Dr. Braverman,

What is your opinion on taking boosters of HCG during the 2ww?
Are they of benefit to those with allo-immune RPL issues?

My current RE prescribes hcg boosters at the equivalent of 3dpo, 6dpo, and 9dpo, and he uses a 1/3 dose of Ovidrel for each booster. (I use 10,000 units Pregnyl HCG for my trigger)

yes I do beleive there is a benefit to this, but makes the final HCG test harder to evaluate.

I am curious -- is there any difference in using recominant vs. urinary HCG? I am currently on 0.5 mL/ovidrel 2x week post FET. Just concerned as the package insert says it is contraindicated in pregnancy.

studies have not looked at this exact issue but it has been shown that recombinant does a better job with immune suppression than urinary derived HCG. But we have had success with both.

Thanks for your response -- are there any concerns around the fact that it's contraindicated? Or is that just because it's never been tested per se in pregnancy?

Thank you for all your support answering all our question!

How would you administer the booster shots in an own egg cycle?
Just curious as some clinics would do small doses more frequently but I've not been able to find any data to support that.

also, would you do an HCG wash and booster shots in the same cycle?

I prefer 5000 HCG twice weekly after the trigger shot. There is not a lot of data yet on the wash, but I dont suspect it would hurt. Again I dont know your exact case so I cant say any of this is the best management for you .
