Intralipid Therapy

Intralipid therapy offers a course of treatment for the immunologic causes of miscarriage and while there is a completely different mechanism of action there has been success in some cases that might have required IVIG, but intralipids are significantly more affordable for couples who are seeking success after multiple miscarriages. Consisting of a mix of fatty acids, it is administered intravenously over a period of 3-4 hours. Intralipids have a suppressive action on certain components of the mother's immune system, essentially safeguarding the embryo from the immune reactions which might otherwise result in a miscarriage.

Worldwide there is less clinical experience with Intralipids than with IVIG, but we have studied their use extensively in our practice, and have found that our patients have enjoyed great success. Many women who have suffered multiple miscarriages and who are unable to afford more expensive treatment options turn to Intralipid therapy. A single treatment normally costs between $400 and $700.
