IVIG/Intralipid necessary?

Hi Dr. Braverman,
My NK assay came back all at normal levels, with the exception of cd56cd16 which was 16.9% (upper limit of 16). Despite being only slightly elevated, my doctor recommended multiple infusions of IVIg.

Results also came back high positive for antithyroid and antiphospholid antibodies. I know you are of the opinion that NK cells are a sympton and not a diagnosis. My question is, could the elevated NK cells be a result of the antibodies? In other words, can I possilby avoid IVIg/Intralipid treatment by focusing on treating the antibodies?

Thank you for your time.

April

Of course you also know then that I dont beleive in recommending any treatments until you have a "diagnosis" . From your history so far however it appears you have an anti body mediated NK cell reaction called ADCC (anti body dependant cellular cytotoxicity) where the antibody attaches to a target and the NK cell attaches to the antibody and causes the destruction . Understanding which autoimmune issue you have that has ADCC will allow you to be very specific for a treatment. I dont think IVIG would be bad here but again with out a complete diagnosis I cant be sure it is the correct or only treatment that you would need.
