Hello Dr Braverman,

I am 14 weeks pregnant after an egg donation cycle and have been on progynova (oestradiol) and progesterone support. I was told to wean off progynova from week 12 and test while I was weaning off. Last week I got back results from my oestradiol and I am muuuuuch below the range (1967 pmol/l and the range is 14000 to 24000 ). The clinic believes I am fine and ok to stop progynova (now I am only on a minimum dose of 2mg per day) but I am so scared to see these low levels of E2 and not sure if I should stop the progynova or increase it (I was on 4 tablets daily and reduced gradually to one only from week 12). I also wonder why are my levels so low at this point when the placenta was supposed to have taken over the hormonal production? Can you guive me a light here please? Thanks a lot!

I would not worry about the estrogen level at this point, I would follow the advice of your doctors. There is no data on low estrogen at this stage of pregnancy and poor outcome.

I was reading online that taking progynova (oestradiol) during pregnancy could harm the developing fetus and now I am freaking out about it because I was on it until the end of 14 weeks. Do you think the baby should be fine? Thanks a lot!

We frequently have our patients on estrogen therapy through 12 weeks and have not seen complications with this. I would advise that you stop reading the internet as there are always "bad" things about everything and the ultmate harm is the worry people go through when they dont have the expereince to interpret correctly what they read.
