Hello Dr. Braverman,

I have just had my 3rd cancellation of an FET due to a mystery fluid in my uterus. It is not there on day 3 but is almost always there on day 6 (but only since I've had two hysteroscopies after scarring at the cervix from a repeat D&C. I NEVER had this problem before and I had been monitored monthly for about a year). It's a pretty small amount at the tip of my uterus. Upon draining, one doctor thought it looked like mucus (I was doing a medicated FET at the time) so we decided this month to try an unmedicated FET to see if that would help. It did not. On day 6 I had fluid present again (and it is not leftover from my period. My period is only two days and the u/s after I finished bleeding was all clear, no fluid). Yesterday I had an HSG to see if it is coming from the tubes, but my tubes are open and everything looks good. The cervix, which has been giving me trouble by re-scarring and cervical stenosis (?) even looked good so we don't think it has anything to do with that. I don't have adenomyosis. I may have endo since I had 6 months of retrograde menstruation due to blockage of the cervix before it was fixed. But my doc says all looks good (never did a lap) from the ultrasounds and HSG. Nobody knows why this fluid keeps coming but it has been keeping me from doing an FET for six months. Here is where my question is: just recently I have become allergic to adhesives. All adhesives. If I have a band-aid on (even latex-free) for even 10 minutes the whole area will break out in hives. I've never had hives before this. Also, my eosinophil count is always high on my CBC, even if I do not have any allergies at the time. Do you think my body/immune system is over-reacting everywhere? Even in my endometrium? Would this cause fluid? My docs at NYU are stumped. I am supposed to go back this week for a lining check and the doc is even considering possibly going forward with the transfer if there is no fluid present and the lining looks good. Is this a good idea? As much as I want to go forward, I do not want to put embryos in a bad environment. I have had two miscarriages. One for unknown reasons, one chromosomal (45X). I am compound heterozygous for MTHFR but that is the only thing that has come up and I do not believe this has caused either miscarriage. Do you have any ideas about what this fluid could be? Or a test I should have to find out?

Thanks in advance for your time. I look forward to reading your response.

okay I dont think it is an allergic reaction. I have seen this many times , it certainly could be mucus, they did rule out inflammatory exudate(did they culture it, stain it and see if it was inflammatory? ) I have drained the fluid prior to an FET and then just proceeded with the FET. You certainly want to avoid putting the embryos into a collection of mucus, but this may just be how your endometrium responds so draining it and then placing the embryos may not be a bad idea.
