Hi Dr. Braverman,

I e-mailed you a couple days ago, regarding my first appointment with you on 11/8 in your Manhattan office, and you did tell me that you would be open 11/8, and we were just going to go ahead. My husband and our 5 y/o daughter were going to be with me, and we were going to make a family vacation out of it...we have been long-awaiting this appointment as we set it in July. Of course, Hurricane Sandy struck and now it seems NYC is in chaos. However, my parents are extremely worried about us, especially our little girl, being in NYC at this time. News reports of gas shortages, people being without food, water, heat, electricity, and taxis having barely any gas, and bus lines a mile long...it sounds like a war zone.

Since you live in NY and can see the situation firsthand, do you feel like it is safe for a family with a five year old to come at this time, or should we reschedule our appointment (we would have to wait until Feb or March and I hate to wait anymore, but safety is #1)?

Here is the major thing...my husband's scheduler said that he can go ahead and put him back on the schedule for the time he requested off (11/7-12) but that he has to do it by noon (CST) tomorrow (11/2). We cannot just throw away a week of his two week's annual vactaion, so we really need to know ASAP. We were going to stay at the Crowne Plaza Times Square, and it seems their phone is out of order, as I cannot reach them. Is everything as chaotic and terrible as the news portrays, or is it ok as long as we don't try to go to Lower Manhattan? I really need some advice, as I do not want to take my precious little girl into a dangerous situation. We will need to be able to get around in taxis, as the subways are shut down....are taxis running? Or is it true that they are rationed to just a couple gallons of gas and it is nearly impossible to get a taxi right now anyway?

Also, will your office have power by 11/8-I heard that everything south of 33rd street has no power. Part of the big first visit is that bloodflow ultrasound, and of course, if that won't be able to be done, then we will definitely reschedule.

I really appreciate your help, thank you.

I thiink since we do not have any information at this time as when things will return to normal I would call the office today (we just got our phone service back this AM) and reschedule. I am sure it will not be that far off for the next appoinment.

Thank you Dr. Braverman for your quick response,

I cancelled my appointment with you 11/8, and my husband was able to let his work know in time to put him back on the schedule. Your office told me that your Manhattan office is closed until further notice (and my appointment was scheduled for there on 11/8), and to call back next Friday to see if I can reschedule for January in Manhattan. So I will do that. No more hurricanes! I am looking forward to meeting you then and to getting closer to my second baby.
