Dear Dr. Braverman, I had a consult with you in December. I just have a few questions that I wanted to ask you about.

Is it possible to do pre-pregnancy genetic testing prior to PGD (for gender) to avoid any possible recessive disorders that I may not know I have so I can do the least amount of probes possible?
What do you think about aCGH for gender selection?
It my husband doesn't have sperm issues, do we still need to do ICSI?

How far prior to the month I want to get pregnant should I come to you to do tests or any other screening?

THank you very much.

The best use of probes is for recessive disorders that have already shown themselves in your family, these are specialty probes. Otherwise the standard probes you get are looking for spontaneous mutations. The genetic testing we would do prior is to look for translocations in either of you that can lead to other "unbalanced" translocations in the embryo. For this aCGH is better. Over all if there are no histories of disorders in the family there is no value in the CGH or PGD except for gender.

Is it possible to plan to do aCGH but be able to switch to a 2 or 3 probe PGD midcycle if it turns out I am a poor responder to the ovarian stimulation? So that I have enough eggs to work with (for gender selection purposes).
Thank you for your input.

absolutely, you just need to let us know your intentions before hand in case any papers need to be signed ahead of time.
