Dr. Braverman,
My doctor did a "Day 22 Progesterone" on me today. The results were 12.8. I was wondering how that transulates since I don't ovulate on the 14th day of my cycle. My cycles run about 26 days, and I usually ovulate on the 18th day. Going by that, today's progesterone level is only 4 days past ovulation-not the full 7 days. I did just have a miscarriage on the 5th of July (my home ovulation tests followed the same pattern as usual starting after my period-negative until day 16, positive on the 17, then negative on the 18th), My husband and I 'hung out' the night of the 18th....what's your take? Are there any other precautions we could take now to help prevent a miscarriage, if I'm pregnant? I'm not on Clomid or anything...my previous post was "Secondary infertility-4 gravida 1 para" I have taken the patient history on your site....I am going to get my prog levels tested again on Aug 1st which will be the true 7 days past ovulation....what are the 'optimistic' numbers had I ovulated/am pregnant? THANKS SO MUCH!!!!

Update: took another progesterone on day seven after ovulation....it was 20.2. Neg preg tests so far and I should have gotten my period yesterday. Do reproductive doctors still recommend taking aspirin a day to increase successful implantation? I was also wondering what treatments are the "Golden Standard" if say, I were to be dx-ed with some sort of thrombophilia, antibody, or other immune/autoimmune issue? I realize different tx exist for different issues, but just in general...seems like there is nothing anyone can do...

The gold standard for RPL with thrombophilia is lovenox. But you are correct every patient needs a management tailored to their specific abnormalities. You could still be pregnant and a mid luteal prog of 20 is quite good. good luck.

....I'm really confused. The doctor won't see me now because I'm pregnant. She was totally rude and unprofessional...who ever the office manager at dr. mendez's office in Fayetteville, nc was down right nasty to me! She wouldn't even order labs for me.
I talked to the lady who schedules your appointments; I called about a phone consult but when I told my husband the price he said we couldn't afford it...we only have Tricare prime as he is active duty...I guess there isn't much I can do now is there?

Dr. Braverman,

Yesterday I was 3 weeks and 6 days pregnant....with an hcg of 5....I know it's still really early in the pregnancy but that scares me. How are HPT picking up a positive (with test sensitivitys around 20) when the blood levels are only 5?? Do you think I'm going to miscarry again because the hcg was so low or do you think it's just because not much time has elapsed? I'm going to have another HCG drawn Monday too. Also, do you think the length of each pregnancy (miscarriage) can indicate anything? So, I've been pregnant 5 times now with my first and only live birth being high-risk and with Gastroschesis. First miscarriage ended at 10 weeks-no fetal heartbeat (2 days after a heartbeat was detected), Second ended at 11 wks- thats when anembryonic preg dx then-probably lost the pregnancy around 6 wks ??, and my most recent one ending at 5 weeks....could this mean that I) implantation is being achieved and getting pregnant isn't a problem...and that II) perhaps the uterine environment is satisfactory for growth, but III) something after implantation is happening? Or maybe just improper implantation in the first place? I know each case is it's own, but if you had anyone with a similar hx, what was the general problem/tx? THANK!!!

Im concerned that if the urine test was postive and the HCG is only 5 that the level may be falling? Yes the only way you will know is to repeat it again . Your story is quite common in my practice and if this does have an unfortunate ending then you need to contact me so we can get this corrected, most are very treatable. Good Luck with your next test,.

Im still using up the remainder of the urine tests, which continue to be positive. Specific brands that were negative before, are now positive as of this AM. I'm kind of hopeful, but then again, knowing my luck; and I'm having a lot of cramping-it's all starting to feel oh so familiar BUT....fingers crossed for Monday's result. Thanks again for being so kind. How do you answer everyone? You must have tons of posts!
