Dear Dr. Braverman:

I was recently diagnosed with protein s deficiency after my 2 miscarriages (both did not pass 9 weeks). My OB referred me to a hematologist to review my lab results. The protein S def result was 52. He had me retest which came back at 57. Therefore, the treatment plan for me is 325 mg aspirin.

Currently, I am 13 weeks and 2 days pregnant. I am on 325 mg aspirin, 1 mg 3x day folic acid, prenatal and was on 100 mg 2x a day of progesterone suppositories until 13 week. The following concerns I have are:

1) Is 325 mg going to harm my baby as I approach 3rd trimester? (would Baby Aspirin do the trick and not harm the baby?)
2) Is aspirin enough to ensure that I will not miscarry in 2nd or 3rd trimester (should I also be on lovenox with lvl of 57?)
3) I had noticed that sometime after I brush my teeth, I had small bleeding from my gum. Also, I noticed that I had some bruising that I am not sure how they got there on my knees. Are these signs that I may not be protein s def?

Also, no history of blood clotting (I had D&C Jan 2010 with no complications. Bleed for two weeks). Never been on birth control and no family history of blood clotting (my mom actually bruises very easily as well).

Please advise. Thank you in advance for your help as I am really concern at this time after reading that protein s def causes 2&3rd trimester miscarriage.

I dont know all the details of your case and all the heme results. I generally treat these conditions with lovenox with 80mg baby aspirin.
