Recurrent Blighted Ovum Losses

Dr. Braverman,

I am in the midst of my third consecutive loss at age 36 - 2nd confirmed missed blighted ovum; my other loss was a natural miscarriage at 5 weeks. So it appears my body is unable to create an embryo. However, wih both blighted ovum losses, my hCG rose beautifully and the gestational sac has measured right where it should have been. So my body is partially working, I suppose?

I do have a history of some immune-related issues:

- Hypothyroid (controlled with Nature-Throid), with antibodies confirmed during my first pregnancy (but not since)

- While being diagnosed with Lyme Disease, my doctor found high levels of anti-insulin and anti-parietal antibodies (no history of diabetes or insulin use). She diagnosed me with "unknown autoimmune disease" in addition to Lyme

- History of severe asthma and allergies from ages 3 - 26, with 15+ years consecutive use of Prednisone

I know that repeat blighted ovum losses is considered pretty rare. Thus, my research has led me to your page.

My questions are:

- In your experience, can blighted ovum losses be related to immunological issues?

- Based on my history, do you think I would be a good candidate for your practice?

Thanks so much.

Dr. Braverman
