Dear Dr Braverman,
I have read that Humira suppresses the immune system and TNF factor and can leave you more at risk for infectious diseases or a reactivation of an old virus like TB that the immune system was keeping in check. I would like to know if IVIG or Intralipids also suppress the immune system and create the same risks, as I work in health care and would like to know if I would be at a greater risk for infection. We have made an appointment with you and look forward to meeting you in person on March 3. Again many thanks as we try to figure this stuff out!
yours, Nora Cage and Martin Keith

All of the medications that we use act by suppressing some portion of the immune response against the embryo. As we use much smaller doses of medications for treating fertlity issues than is used for autoimmune disease we do not see these types of complications in our immune fertility patients.
With that said because of the theoretical risks these treatments should only be done by physicians with the capability to understand and follow immune parameters during treatment. In all the years I have been treating our patients I have never had an infectious complication.
I hope that helps.
