Dr. Braverman,

How does it work to transfer frozen embryos to a AF and what is the cost? Would AF thaw embies to grow to day 5 and refreeze? Does AF use vitrification to refreeze?

Thanks for this site by the way.

It depends where the embryos are. If they are local some people pick them up themselves to transfer, if they are used in a current cycle there is no charge for the transfer. There are courrier services which can run up to about 300 dollars to pick them up and deliver them. Yes we would thaw out and let them go to day 5 if they are day 3. Be aware that day 3 embryos do not thaw out as well, which is why I always freeze only as blasts . We do not use vitrification, as AF has not seen the need for it. For patients that must have vitrification , we can offer that at other centers that we perform ER at.
