Hi! Dr. Braverman, I need some advice. I have had 4 first trimester miscarriages two of which were vital pregnancies that miscarried 7w and 8 wk and required D&C’s and the other were two blighted ovum that I miscarried naturally at 5wks and 6wks. I wonder what could cause this repeated blighted ovum. All of the tests came back normal, except NK cells that tested high (11.2%.). I wonder if this could be a reason for my blighted ovum and miscarriages. Is level high enough to fallow a treatment with steroids and intralipids? I plan for the next pregnancy to continue with Intralipids if the treatment would be efficient.

On the other hand I have read on your site that male partner can contribute to miscarriages as well. My husband's mother have had repeated miscarriages and blighted ovums as well. I have no history of pregnancy loss in my family.

I wonder if the male partner can inherit a predisposition for miscarriages. I know it sounds foolish to ask this questions but can a male partner sperm quality could cause miscarriages and what kind of test we should consider? Is there a testing facility that carries this kind of testing? I’m interested on testing my partner to eliminate all possible reasons. Thank you very much for your advice!

there are a few things that still need testing. yes there are several reasons the male partner can cause blighted ovums. There are certain HLA genes he may posses as well as abnormal DNA fragmentation. You also need much more than just an NKa of 11 to explain these losses. where are you getting your treatment? Is it with reproductive immunologists? I would be happy to test and guide you through this, Im sure I can help you. Feel free to call my office and schedule a consultation with me.
