Hello! I am new to this. This is my first time ever writing a post in my life but maybe this can give me some answers that I have been waiting for. Well here's my story!

I am a 32 year old female who has Sickle Cell Anemia Disease and as you can see has had 6 miscarriages and just had my 7th a week ago. I have not had a Sickle Cell Crisis since I was eight years old and according to doctors my disease does not play a roll on why I keep miscarrying. I do not have any children that I can call my own as of yet. My husband and I suffered from our first lost 5 years ago when we where still dating I was 6 weeks at the time. A year later miscarriage --2 happened when I was 8 weeks. A year after that I had miscarrige -- 3 this time I was 6 weeks. So by the time 2008 hit we were planning our wedding and this is when I was a little excited because I got to 10 weeks. After I had an ultrasound and we seen a heart beat the very next day I started spotting. Oh godness there it is again another miscarriage that following day, that was miscarriage -- 4. Now as you know the doctor's do not consider anything wrong until you have had 3 losses or more. So now I'm concerned. My hubby and I started trying to find answers but to our dismay there wasn't any. Every doctor could not give us an answer to why this was happening.

So now comes the wedding, honeymoon, great sex, and in 2009 I had two more miscarriages. My husband and I went and had Genetic testing done (they test our blood to make sure everything is fine from our chromosones to our karotype). My husband does not have the Sickle Cell Trait or Disease. The result of the test of course everything came back fine. I had to go through several more tests of course from ultrasounds, pelvic ultrasounds, hysterosalpingogram (hsg) to test to see if you have any blocked fallopian tubes, fibroids, cysts etc. This test came back fine of course! Next test more blood work, more pelvic ultasounds more blood work more ultrasounds, and still the doc's can't find anything. Of course as the women we have to be the ones getting poked all the time. They don't have to test my husband for anything else because of the fact that I can get pregnant.

Ok every year around this time it seems like we get pregant but of course now that the doctors is telling us to get pregnant we can't. We'll not that we can't is just the idea of having another loss is what concerns us. Our doctor (which now I see a fertility specialist) wants us to get pregnant so he can see what happens with my uterus when I first know that I'm pregnant. So we have been trying to concieve. After all these test I do know that I have a fibroid and I had a 2 cysts, one on each of my ovaries. But as of July 2010 the doctors said that I do not have any cyst. According to my doc they come and go during the menstral cycle. The fibroid that I do have doesn't sit anywhere near my uterus so that does not have anything to do with my losses either.

As of 10/2010 we were pregnant again, our 7th pregnancy oh boy. It's like we both are happy and sad at the same time. Our doctor (fertility specialist) told me to come in right away. I was only seeing a fertility doctor because of all my infertility problems with the miscarriages. I never had a problem getting pregnant I just always lossed my babies and no doctor could ever tell us why. Well I was told to come in to the office for them to draw some blood from me. A few hours later the Doc called me with the results and said that my hcg levels were good but my progestrone levels was only at a 14 which is low. He prescribed me a vaginal progestrone for me to insert in me daily to increase my levels. Now my concern is was this always the problem? Was my progestrone always low and the doctors never looked at that?

Well everything seemed to be going well I was on the progestrone cream (Crinone) for 12 weeks. I had two ultrasound during that time one at 7 to 8 weeks and the baby was bouncing up and down. Our next appt was at 10 weeks the baby was rolling around. Even the ultrasound tech said wow you have such and active baby. I had two more appointments one at 14 weeks where the doctor could not hear the heartbeat on the heart monitor so she took me in the ultrasound room and looked and everything was fine, the baby was kicking up a storm. At 17 weeks I had another appt and no ultrasound but the doc said she heard the heartbeat. So my hubby and I were super exicted this is the furthest we have ever gotten. We knew this was our time. We annouced our pregnancy to both sides of our family, our friends, co-workers, everyone. I was starting to show and had that motherly glow.

Well my doctor called me to tell me that my blood levels came back and they were not to good. My levels for the baby having spinal bifida were high. My next appt was not schedule until today 3/2/11, but since this test showed these high levels they scheduled me to come in on 2/22/11 to speak with Gentic Counsleing and then to have an ultrasound to see if the can see the baby's spine. Well during the ultrasound we noticed there was no heartbeat. The tech kept looking and to no avail we lost our baby again. This was devastiong because I was 20 weeks and was halfway there. I had an option to deliver or to do a DNC to be put to sleep. Well I opted for the DNC only because I was already an emotional wreck I couldn't push out my first baby as a stillborn. The doc's said they will peform a Amniocentesis to see what was the cause of this loss.

Upon my discharge I noticed on my paperwork that the baby may have passed 2 weeks prior to my procedure on Friday. So with that information the doctors don't know if they can get an accurate read off the test because of the timing from the loss of my baby. According to the doc's I was only 17 1/2 weeks pregnant.

I'm just praying they can find something, anything, and hopefully it's fixable if not we are back to sqaure one. I am suppose to get the result of this test back within a 1 1/2 to two weeks.

Please Dr. Braverman if you are reading this I need some answers desperately. I know that I may have left out a lot of important information and I know you will need the follow up from the amniocentesis test, I am willing to provide all the necessary information to you and your practice.

Thank you so much for taking your time to read all of this!

Hi JazzyLady

I am so sorry for all of your losses, please know that there is always so much to be done and it is very unusual we dont find an answer for your losses. Clearly the list of possiblities is long, and I do agree it is not your SS disease. But there are many other immune issues that can cause these losses and we can test for them and treat them.
Please gather all your results and call Kim in my office to schedule a consultation, email or fax all your results to me and we will start to figure this out, please do not despair there is so much to be done. i am looking forward to working with you .

OMG This is so amazing I truley did not expect to get a response so quick. Thank you so very much and once I get my results back for the amniocentesis I will definitely fax over all the information and give your office a call. I am from Philadelphia and I do not have a problem traveling but I also read in some earlier post that you will actually consult with the doctors on my behalf. Is this true? If so on my next doctors appt I will tell them about you so they can prepare all there information and have it available for you.

Once Again Thank You So Very Much!!!!

My pleasure. Yes I work with your doctors but I need to have a consult with you first and get all your records before I can advise them on a plan of management . If after the consult they have any details they would like to fill in I would be happy to speak with them. For now I would just need all their records. Look forward to helping you.

I had a follow up appt with my doctors the other day and they informed me that the amniocentisis test came back and it seems that everything was fine with the chromosones. Nothing was gentically wrong with my baby? Good news right!! Only now the problem is they still can't determine why this keeps happening to me. I did find out that my baby was a boy. Wow out of all these miscarriages this is the first time that I have ever found out my baby's sex. The doc's say that the only thing they can suggest if I was to go through with another preganancy that they would prescribe me again with progestrone for 12 weeks, and then they want to put me on a blood thinner Lovenox for my entire pregnancy. I'm not sure if I want to go thru with that, is that the only way that I can bring a baby to term? They said that with the Lovenox is still not a 100% chance that I will come out with a sucessful pregnancy. I don't get it? I come so close, but so far!! Ugghh this is so frustrating. Dr. Braverman what should I do, tell me what th next step in my process should be. Can I ask the doctors anything in particular or is this something that I have to come to your office for. I am so frustrated by all of this. I have been reading the book by Dr. Alan E. Beer "Is your Body Baby-Friendly? He has so much information that I had to put the book down because I was getting too much information that when I ask the doc's certain things its like they can be a little bothered by how much I know. I also asked my doc's about NK's and they seem to think I don't have any. Help me please!
