Dr. Braverman,
Do you use HCG injections after transfer with any of your immune patients? If so, what is the usual dosage that you recommend and for how long do you continue them. I was successful in 2005 with immune treatments with Dr. Beer. At that time he had me do HCG injections, but his center no longer uses them, but I do not know why. I was curious if you do. Thank you so much for this board. It has a wealth of information.

yes we do. There are receptors on dendritic cells for HCG and this helps to maintain them in their immature state, which greatly assists in the generation of tolerance for paternal genetics and antigens. i.e. it assists in the creation of immune tolerance for the embryo.

Thank you, Dr. Braverman. Dr. Beer had me take 2500 units twice a week, beginning with a positive pregnancy test and continuing through 8 weeks. When do you have your patients start...after transfer or with a positive pregnancy test? Also, what dosage, how often and when do you have them stop? I would like to speak to my doctor about taking HCG injections with my next frozen embryo transfer. Thanks and have a great day.

so much depends on what the immune issue is that you are treating . what was your problem and what laboratory tests were done?

To be honest, I don't remember every single test done without going back through several notebooks full of emails, notes, test results, etc. Dr. Beer tested me for it seems like everything that you do, except you test for more DQ Aplha matches. I can't remember all the reasons why he gave me the the HCG injections, except that I have antibodies to HCG.
THIS IS WHAT I DO REMEMBER OFF THE TOP OF MY HEAD:
Neg LAD (now positive after many LIT's)
Elevated blood and uterine tissue NK's
Elevated TH1/TH2
Thrombophilia work-up results revealed...MTHFR A Homozygous, Factor XIII Heterozygous
One DQ Aplha match...can't remember which one
Autoantibody to nuclear components (such as DNA, nucleatide, histones) negative
Autoimmune screening test were all negative
ANA negative
Positive Antibodies to...HCG, Estrogen, Progesterone, Enkephalin and Serotonin
Glucose/Insulin, Thyroid, etc. all negative
(Treatments have included, but not limited to...LIT, IVIG, Remicade, Enbrel, Humira, Dex, Lovenox, BA, Prozac, Progesterone, HCG injections)
NOTE: 2 SUCCESSFUL PREGNANCIES WITH IMMUNE TREATMENTS, AFTER 11 LOSSES. TRYING FOR --3...THIS TIME IT HAS TAKEN SIMPONI TO LOWER MY TH1/TH2 LEVELS. WILL BE STARTING A FROZEN DONOR EMBRYO CYCLE NEXT MONTH.

Please send me the actual results for the HCG antibodies. was this just speculation or did they actually find these antibodies. Sometimes it is just elevated of the CD19/5 B cells that initiate the theory there are antibodies. There are new treatments that also may help you if your about to undergo a frozen DE cycle. IgG Chorionicgonadotropin...result was abnormal @ 25 (reference range 10)
IgM Chorionicgonadotropin...result was abnormal @ 25 (reference range 10)
When you speak of new teatments are you referring to Neupagen (sp)?

Yes neupogen is one of them. which laboratory ran the HCG antibodies?

They ran antibody tests for:
Enkephalin, Serotonin, Chorionicgonadotropin, Estrogen and Progesterone. All of my results were abnormal.
These were done many years ago. I don't even know if these tests are still done. I never hear anyone else speak about having antibodies to these.

yes you are correct they are not done any more, and they were not reliable(thats why they are not done) so the ideal that you needed HCG injections because you had antibodies against them really had no basis in fact. In fact there are receptors for HCG on dendritic cells(the messenger cells of the immune system) and taking extra HCG pushes these cells into thier immature state and that greatly assists the immune system into tolerance for paternal antigens(the antigens on the embryo).
