Dr. Braverman,

I was a FTM via IVF & I recently miscarried ~ @ 14 weeks. It was a missed miscarriage. I went in for my 16 wk ck up & there was no heartbeat. I immedately called my RE and she scheduled me for a f/u US and a D&C. From her observation there was no amniotic fluid. It's an undetermined dx at the moment, as she would like for me to see a genetic counselor. They may believe it may have been Potters Syndrome. It was a big surprise to her and my OBGYN. I'm a healty 40 yr woman as far as tests show. None smoker. Do not drink, have been an avid distance runner for years & have maintained a healthy lifestyle. I had the Matrinity21 test done at 12 weeks and everything came back normal.

My question(s) for you, is it possilbe to still conceive after a missed miscarriage with the baby possibly having Potters Syndrome? If so, is there an increase of me having another baby with Potters Syndrome? Is there anything I can do prior to going through IVF again or after if i am succesful with IVF again? What I should be doing/taking (other than the prenatal) to ensure my baby's development of all organs? Are there additional labs to be taken prior to IVF?

I understand I'm older, & those considerations are taken into account, but I haven't given up hope. I'm desperate for answers.

I don not beleive this is an immune issue. These questions should have been answered by a genetic counselor, if you have not seen one yet you should. I beleive the risk of reoccurance is very small.
